I Think about Legacy Now More Than Ever
In the moments spent at my desk, surrounded by photos of my dear mother, Vernadine Hill, and my children, I find myself contemplating legacy more deeply than ever. My mother's sudden passing on May 25, 2022, due to cardiac arrest a culmination of various heart conditions, including one that I now live with has profoundly shifted my perspective on life, health, and family. Historically, I have broken barriers with my peers in social justice and community impact. Now, I'm on a journey of making herstory in honor of my mother, my grandmothers, and the women who taught me to love myself and others.
Those who have been with this site through its evolution might recall the healthy living recipes my mother generously contributed. These recipes were more than just instructions for nourishing the body; they were her way of weaving herself into the fabric of this project, sharing something meaningful with you all. It was our bridge to mending and deepening our once-tense mother daughter relationship.
Through the recipes she shared, she continues to touch lives, encouraging a legacy of health and healing that resonates far beyond our kitchen. It's a legacy that I'm determined to carry forward, honoring her memory not just in the meals we share but in every aspect of this journey towards better heart health for all women.

A recent revelation for me about this site as it evolves: it is becoming a sanctuary where I share my research, ideas, concepts, and creations. This platform is my way of reclaiming what was unjustly lost in the past—when sharing in the spirit of collaboration and change resulted in personal setbacks. Yet, it is also here where I've nurtured the habits and patterns that have sculpted me into a better human being. This journey, steeped in humility, has taught me that my gifts are not solely my own but are meant to be shared, guiding me to open my mind to the world while safeguarding my inner essence.
As a leader in my family, community, and industry, I've realized the importance of fostering consciousness, confidence, courage, creativity, and connection. I am far from perfect, but I am acutely aware of my worth, value, and the impact I can have. As a devout Christian, my faith in God anchors me in love for all my neighbors. It underscores my commitment to being authentically free and true to myself—a journey that has spanned over twenty years of navigating life and the systemic structures into which I was born.
My personal and professional paths have led me through diverse sectors and echelons of power, providing a broad perspective on the challenges we collectively face. I am a lifelong learner, continually evolving, with the belief that understanding fosters improvement. While I acknowledge the breadth of my knowledge, I am also humbly aware that I do not know everything.
